Nearly One Million South County residents and taxpayers deserve better!
With more than 855,000 residents in South Orange County, we rely on our local Department of Motor Vehicles to issue behind-the-wheel drivers’ tests for our kids. After May 7, 2025, Real ID will be required to board an airplane or go to a federal courthouse. You can ONLY get a Real ID through an in-person visit to the DMV.

San Clemente’s DMV cannot handle 855,000 new customers
The San Clemente DMV is just too small to handle the entirety of South Orange County’s population of nearly one million residents. That DMV is just 8,400 square feet with 21 employees and fewer than 100 parking spaces. Even today, the line is out the door and the wait times are epic. San Clemente residents are already overwhelmed as the daily parking overflows from the tiny DMV lot. Add hundreds of thousands of new customers from South Orange County, and that DMV will be bursting at the seams.

Santa Ana and Costa Mesa DMVs are too far and too crowded
The Santa Ana DMV is more than 30 miles away from much of South Orange County and, as we all know, the traffic on the I-5 and I-405 can turn 30 miles into an hour or more, each way. And once you arrive, the lines are out the door and the atmosphere is a zoo. Neither the Santa Ana nor the Costa Mesa field office has the capacity to handle an additional 855,000 customers.
